Kappa 河童, meaning “River Child” in Japanese, are aquatic reptilian humanoids living in rivers, according to Japanese myths.
Kappa are excellent swimmers with webbed limbs, and turtle-like beaks and shells. Kappa also has a dish-shape depression on top of their skulls, which are said to be the source of their power.

Yanari 家鳴り

Yanari 家鳴り means "house squeakers", which are miniature oni (ghost/troll) who makes furniture (especially wooden ones) shakes and squeaks. While nowadays we all know that the squeaking sounds of
wooden furniture are indeed due to changes in temperature and humidity, traditional folklore believe that such sound is the result of pranks made by Yanari.

Kodama 木霊 are tree spirits. This term is also used to denote trees with a Kodama spirit inhabiting.
In Japanese folklore, the echoing effects in mountains and valleys is sometimes attributed to Kodama.

Rokurokubi 轆轤首 are female apparitions with tentacle necks. Rokurokubi disguise themselves as human at day time, and their head will wander off at night, connected to their bodies with a long tangled neck.
