[Bandcamp as Performance Art Platform]
In this album, 433 Records tries to explore and review the role of an "album" and the role of a music platform (Bandcamp). Instead of treating this compilation as a pure music album, the "sound termination" ritual (see below) becomes a piece of Performance Art, allowing us to reflect on how we can use an (unfinished) album as a whole to "say something". The Bandcamp page is no longer a music player, but a platform to showcase this piece of Performance Art. More experiments will be done on this topic in future.
[Doomsday Clock 2022]
On 20 January 2022, The doomsday clock was adjusted to 23:58:20 by the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists. It's now 100 seconds to midnight. After that, all civilizations will be gone.
This is a compilation echoing the Doomsday Clock announcement. In the album, all tracks are set to be 100 seconds. When time's up, the track will be terminated and all unfinished parts will be hard-cut and removed. While Doomsday Clock acts a metaphor for how close humanity is to self-annihilation, this 100 second window is also a wake-up call for us to pay more attention to threats of global risks such as nuclear weapons, climate change and disruptive technologies.
This project is a collaboration between 433 Records and Cassette Hong Kong 卡式香港. All tracks are contributed by Hong Kong artists in various genres (Rock/Pop/Classical/Reggae/Chinese Traditional/Experimental/Electronic/Field Recording/Podcast/Literature/Poetry...) which represent different walks of life [And thus the termination of different walks of life when "time's up"]. No mastering will be done on this album so the varieties of individuals are preserved.
The album is set to be free in Bandcamp. Free redeem codes are distributed in various social media platforms as well (such as the IG of 433 Records). If you want to support this album, please donate 4+ USD to the charity organizations in your local community.
The concept of this album is inspired by Banksy's Balloon Girl auction.
